Search Word or Phrase
You can search the main dictionary using any of the following methods:
- Typing directly the chinese word or phrase you are looking for (For example : 好, 子, 中, 我).
The word must be UTF-8 encoded, which it will be , if you are using a modern browser
- Typing the UNICODE code of a word, either in decimal or in hex (For example : 22909, 23376, 20013, 25105).
You can enter hex codes by prepending a "0x" to them. For example: 0x597D, 0x5B50, 0x4E2D,0x6211).
- Typing the code of the character in any of the other popular encoding formats : Big5, GB, UTF-8 (although UTF-8 is
really 8-bit encoded UNICODE)
- Typing the Hanyu Pinyin pronunciation of the character. It can be entered either using the numerical tone convention:
- 1 = High Level Tone
- 2 = Rising Tone
- 3 = Falling/Rising Tone
- 4 = Falling Tone
- 5 = Neutral Tone
For example : ren2, wo3, zhong1
You can also enter the tonal information using diacritical marks for specifying the tone.
- Entering an english or spanish word or expression. The system will look for translations containing this text. The
results are limited to the first 100 results found.
- Remember that you can also browse the main dictionary or search by radicals by using the
dictionaries
